Cruise Tickets: When to Buy?

Posted in General by Author - Oct 16, 2009

If you’re looking for the very best prices on cruise packages, wait until the last few weeks before the cruise to sign up. The second best pricing can be arranged way ahead of the cruise dates to get the ball rolling. Cruise tickets are actually most expensive in the middle phase.  So the early (and late) birds get the worm.

If you’re one who likes to plan way in advance, go for it. You’ll be in good shape price wise. But, if you can be extremely flexible and don’t mind the stress of not knowing until the last minute whether there is space for you or not, you are in the best position to get a the cheapest cruise tickets.

Other tricks for securing a cheaper cruise package include going on what is referred to as “shoulder” season. The shoulder season is the off season (and the hurricane season in the Caribbean. Can’t have everything!).

Or gather a big group to vacation with – at least 15 people – and the cruise line may be happy to arrange a group rate.

Finally, you are more likely to get better rates if you book online than directly from a travel brochure. Check this out and compare the brochure pricing, to a travel agent’s, to what you can find online.

Of course some people don’t mind paying next to full price for their cruise tickets. They get guaranteed accommodations of their choosing – just the right cabin on just the right dates to just the right spots.

I have heard that everyone can afford a cruise that wants to go on one and this just may be true, if you know how to time it right.
